Seems odd as no doubt an increasing number of people do not remember the post war ‘Jap-cr@p’ mentality, and only some Far East produce gets the ‘best’ label? Post war the associated reverences were of the ilk of Swiss watches, German cameras, British motorcycles for example, and haven’t big changes taken place.

An electronics company I used to work for in the 1980s now outsources its manufacturing to China; it has to, just to keep up with its competitors. I presume all the local workers who used to assemble and test PCBs are now out of a job.
And since three-quarters of our laws are in fact implementations of EU requirements, a change of UK government would have little effect. Dave
I do not want to derail this, but as a young un, i was told by a war chap, we have nothing, you mark my words he said. We have our freedom, yes to do as we are told and to buy everything that is not English. The statement above, how true.
(please no! lets bring the war in here, its just a chap who told me the future)
Now as with the MIA, i have a new 11 MIM and a 96 MIA, there is a long way in time scale here i know, between them the 96 is a far nicer guitar, know don't get me wrong, the MIM is a bueatifull machine, hold for hold, the MIA.

I,d recommend a used USA strat everytime purely because you wont lose anything on resale. I always aspired to an american strat and I,ve had two so far. My current 1996 Fender 50th anniversary is great now after a lot of tweaking this and that over the years. Having said all that I once had a Japanese squier with the big 60,s headstock and that was a cracking guitar and I regret selling that..to help fund my 1st american. It would be an interesting topic to find out how much of a USA strat is actually made in America. I know the machine heads at least arent..what about the bridge/pickups/neck etc..does anyone know where they are made ? Maybe a more accurate description for any US/UK guitar would be "assembled in.." and not "made in "

To be fair, that's no more true for a USA strat than a Mexi one.
A USA std Strat is about £950 new and £600 used for a minter, whereas a Mex Std would be about £400 and you'd get at least £250 on the used market. If you buy used you'll rarely lose anything on either.
Nothing wrong with buying american if that's what you want but I'd always suggest letting specs guide choices rather than manufacturing locations.
