Very true graham - a hobby that can start from free can soon end up costing quids (many).
I've progressed through a range of scopes, and sometimes no scope. In 2010 I decided that I'd need to be more structured in how I approach things - so invested in a 120mm Refractor and heavy duty GOTO GEM mount (Skywatcher NEQ6). I'll be adding an 8 or 10 inch reflector latter this year. So far been using a webcam for luna and a DSLR at prime focus for Deep Sky. Maybe one day go down a CCD guided route....one day.
Funnily enough the cloud lifted last night and I managed my best capture of M42 - it's still flawed with CA and some banding, but there has been progress from my first efforts. Long way to go mind!
