That sounds like good news, stickyfiddle.

I am having fun learning and also learning about how I learn songs when I have a CD but no sheet music. If you want a laugh, here I am playing along to one of the band's songs.

I had my audition this evening. The guitar, banjo and mandolin players came to my studio, we played for 2 hours and I got offered the job.

It feels great to in a gigging band once again. In my last band we wrote and played some good songs but we never got out of the rehearsal studio.

Well done Lester. There is nothing like playing in a working band.

Shouldn't you be wearing a sailors hat of some kind?

Sounds good Lester, nice music and great that you're back in the gigging world as well.

Well done, Lester!

What I'd be doing at this stage is making up chord sheets for each number, or even writing out the bass parts completely. Just in case I had a memory lapse at the gig!

So that's my first gig out of the way, having joined this band two months ago. I played my new Stagg fretless bass. We played to about 100 people, all staff or residents at a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts and other habits. The photo shows the setup under way, with the mandolin and guitar players on stage.

You're right, I am primarily a guitar player but I am having a lot of fun learning bass, learning new songs, thinking about song arrangements and maybe writing a song or two for the band to get frustrated.
