Try playing a live gig in a small pub with low ceilings using a JCM800 Marshall into a 4X12 cab. Tinnitus!
Or a 120W Roost with a 4x12. What's that you say? Pardon?

I put these pups into this guitar
http://www.entwistlepickups.com/pickup.php?puid=HV%2058%20ZB
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMbKCU3qUhw
and I'm happy with the result for the money I paid. I'm using NI guitar Rig 5 in that vid set to the Vox AC 30 model.
This question is for guitar Weasel really but I'm all ears for info so chip in if you will...
I bought those pups because they are scatter-wound and non-potted and also because they are relatively low DCR. I wanted a vintage sound with space for the strings to breathe a bit. Here's the thing, what would I need to do to get a fuller sound than that?
Even as I post this I'm going to go and try putting a tube screamer or something in the signal path on the program, lol.
Still though,it would be nice to be able to get the sound purely from the guitar.

If you have a both pickups in series, instead of the normal parallel, you do get a bigger, fatter, louder sound - but we are getting into guitar mod territory here!

so how do I go about doing that mod for this guitar please
I know a little about how the mod works for the Tele with the metal neck pup cover but how would you get the same effect from a pup with no metal cover? Run 2 ground wires from the base-plate instead?

I find it really hard to describe the basic difference between series and parallel wiring in words, although it isn't complicated. Maybe this will help: http://www.guitarnuts.com/wiring/serpar.php
Re things like metal baseplates and covers on pickups - these need to be connected directly to the ground side of the circuit (i.e. to the ground lug on the jack socket, normally via the back of the volume pot) and with normal parallel wiring this is generally the case automatically, whether the covers/baseplates have separate wires, or are connected to the ground output wire of the pickup. But in a series configuration, this is not necessarily so, because the output of one pickup feeds into the input of another one. So if the first pickup has a metal cover and/or baseplate, this will need a seperate wire that can be connected to ground, since the output from the pickup is not going to ground, but instead going to the input side of the next pickup. I'm probably making this sound harder than I should, sorry...
Anyway, you just need a suitable circuit to add series-parallel capability - I'll have a look around on guitar Nuts 2.

ty G, I'm starting to get my head around it. I get the principal of series being end to end but parallel being less directly linear.
The pups in the guitar are 4 wire and I have the 2 coil-tap wires twisted together and taped off now. Can I get to a series option through just manipulating those wires? By adding a switch maybe?

--------------- is series
-------- is parallel --------

parallel offers each pup in turn to the switch, the volume pot and the output jack but series adds them together kind of making one bigger pickup. I think. lol
