I agree with the wireless, I tried a wireless keyboard and mouse.....waste of time, tried a few different ones in fact then went back to wires. I discovered that you can comfortably go to 5m for USB cables before you encounter signal loss to a degree where you need to try a different way. I have cables about 7m here now which gives me some lee-way as to where I have to sit in the room.
I don't think I would ever buy a new pc again myself, all the machines for sale in PC World or Comets are last years spec and really not very good value at all but saying that I've not looked for a few months so maybe things have changed but I doubt it.

I still use a desktop computer that was built for me in 2002. It was loaded with XP and it still works fine. One day I might just upgrade the screen from the TV box type to a flat screen. If any of you chaps saw it you'd 'laff you head off'.
My techie chap uses Linux as he reckons it's better, any views on that?

I used a single core Compaq Presario for 8 years before I built this beast I have now. As an example converting a video from a torrent download into a watchable file used to take up to 3 hours ,now it happens in seconds, the difference and the benefit of the upgrade only really became apparent to me after I had upgraded. I would seriously recommend if any of you guys are still running on a single core machine then it's time to move on ....
this is a free and safe program that you can install and un-install very quickly and when you run it it will tell you what the specs of your system are, http://www.piriform.com/speccy
once you know what kit you have you can google it and see what you can do to improve performance, sometimes a simple RAM upgrade can have a dramatic increase in performance

just running this,
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
cleaner and registry functions may very well help a lot of older PC's improve performance considerably too
both those programs I listed are available as free versions and I would recommend only using the free versions
