Thanks for posting the pics Lester - I see what you mean about how close to the frets he is playing. I had been playing mainly towards the middle.
Yes 2 hours does sound a long time. It's a 10 week adult education course. It is a group course but I may well have some one to one tuition later in the year. To be honest finances were the main factor as I can't currently fund the going rate for individual tuition. The course I am booked on was only £45 for 10 weeks, 2 hours per week.

... adult education course ... £45 for 10 weeks, 2 hours per week. I will let you in a little secret (as if something posted on the internet could be a secret - ha!). I went on one of these evening classes back in the '90s and the teacher was an excellent player and an awful teacher. He lectured and demonstrated complex stuff for 2 hours and I could see everyone getting bored.
The upshot was that people left the course and one evening the head of the centre came in and told him that if he didn't find extra students the course would close. He couldn't have cared less, telling her with a lot of four letters words where to stick her course, and then ended by pointing at me, saying that I could run it.
I had a chat with the lady, explaining that I am not a teacher but I could see where he was going wrong, and so I got the chance to take over. What I did was to give a 15 minute lesson on something simple and then split the class into groups, which went into different classrooms to play together for 90 minutes in groups of 3 or 4, during which time I would wander round between the groups to see how each one was getting along, and then we would reassemble for the last 15 mnutes with an opportunity for any of the groups to play in front of the while class. For some that was too scary, for others it was a great opportunity to have a go in a place where you wouldn't be booed off stage.
It was a successful approach and I ended up running separate electric and acoustic versions and at different centres, 3 nights a week for 4 or 5 years.
I hope you enjoy your classes.

The tutor did say that he would put people in small groups according to ability to practise together. I'm happy with that as it might stretch me a bit more. I am practising around 40 min a day on my own and progressing, but I think a decent tutor would be better.
I can't wait to get started, just hope that the tutor is a good one!
