Mojo is all nonsense really. It's a perception thing above all else. Even the best players in the world have 'off days' which would have a direct impact on their 'mojo'.
However, many people fall for superstition and this is what drives the issue. The blues in lyrical form is smitten with superstition. Black cat bone, hoochie coochie man and all that. That is the supposed 'mojo'. It all comes from a form of witchcraft or shamanism. So parts for Guitars such as pickups, body timber, necks et al, that have a supposed 'mojo' would come under the same hat.
Sad but true I'm afraid...

Does stuff bought from Maplins count towards 'mojo'?
As an aside, the other evening at, a gig, I discussed different types of guitar knobs with Jamie Thyer and we both like the Top Hat ones and both dislike the older Witches Hat type (The very small ones that is) because they are too fiddly. Now that is more anorachial than 'mojo' IMHO.

Dear all.
Do. Google search for "guy over the pond".
He makes PAF copies.......man of mystery but from the reviews they are stunning.
People murder for these but I've never seen an accurate price quoted. People have hinted at $1000 a PUP..........Enjoy !

Oh dear, Boffy, Over The Pond Guy or OTPG is a most elusive character for sure. As far as I can make out, he is based, I think, in Cornwall and makes various 'clone' parts for Les Pauls etc., which mainly sell in USA. I don't think the sum you hinted at is his actual price but is what these tend to trade for as they are so rare. I have read numerous reviews of his and other PAF clones that are hand wound using the most accurate materials available for that '50s vibe. Most of the independent ones conclude that his pickups are either the best available or close to it. His great rivals, if that is the right word, would be Will Boggs (WB pickups) who vanished a year or so ago, leaving no trace and a number of paid orders outstanding. The other is Rod Kincaid of Skatterbrane pickups whose prices are not so inflated. Rod has some quirks in his character too, (you have to be a bit weird to want to spend your life turning a handle and winding 42awg wire onto spools) but his attention to product detail and service to customers is excellent, bordering on fanatical. I was given a set of his pickups and he heard about it and contacted me personally with advice and an offer to contact him any time if I had a problem. I call that service. But to put this price topic into perspective, you can get Irongear Rolling Mills for £25 or so. Good pickups compared with almost anything you'll find in a sub £1000 guitar. (rating 90/100) You can get Bare Knuckles, hand made in UK for about £100 each and they are very fine. (95/100). But above that the prices increase a lot. The top ones vary from £150 each to whatever, but if you want to find something in the 97 to 99 range, you pay. I think I'll end this speech and have some coffee.
