Morning all.
You have a 10 - 20 year old Strat, well any guitar. It has a few knocks in her.
1: This gives appeal leave aloan.
2: Get the sand paper out and do her up.

I like a guitar to show its age. I would never relic a guitar but a few knocks and dings show it has been played and enjoyed.
Now that is right on the nail, she has a few little marks, some to feel, not enough to say it is bad to play. Just two dings in the neck and the odd mark here and there.
Thank you, played and enjoyed, good comment.

I think I'd only try to repair small dings if I was goint to change the finish, paint it a different colour or something. Otherwise I wouldn't be at all confident of getting a finished repair that didn't show and look worse than an honest ding.

Personally, I'd leave it alone. As long as it doesn't intefere with your playing, it shows that the instrument has been used for the purpose for which it was intended.
That's why I don't spend more than a few hundred quid on Guitars. That way I don't get upset when they inevitably pick up a knock or two.

A few dings then leave it. If it's at the relic/roadworn stage then get out the sandpaper. When I see those new relic'd Guitars all I see is a can of paint/varnish/sandpaper

The dings represent the history of it being used and they have a little story to be told, if known that is. I remember a chap shoving his ciggie behind the strings on the headstock of my guitar and he burned the finish a bit but he bought me a pint after the gig and that's the way it goes. It was a cheap strat copy so no real damage. It could have been a lot worse, like when a friend broke the headstock off a 1962 SG that had a major repair job to fix it up. Ouch expensive that was.
