I'm new here! \:\) I have introduced myself in the newbie section.

I've decided to sell my Boss CS-3, only had it a couple of months, as I'm thinking I should go for it with a top-end compressor such as a Robert Keeley compressor.

Anyone using a Keeley compressor ? Are there alternatives to it ? (I've run a search here but not found anything relating to Keeley).

p.s. I'll post a link in the Ebay section here once my listing on the CS3 goes live, if anyone's interested in it.

Thanks!
Matt.

The Keeley compressors are considered among the best and dearest available so you should get value for money.

I have been looking at getting a CS-3 (because I cannot justify £220 for a Keeley when I only paid £120 for my bass) and notice on eBay that the secondhand ones starting at £40 have not yet had any bids and the new ones are 'buy it now' from £55 upwards.

How much would you like for yours? I might be interested.

Hi Lester. That's good to know, thanks!

I paid £69 for it in early December. It's literally two months old and barely used.

I'd take £50 for it which includes postage to you.

Bear in mind I've got the receipt of purchase and therefore it's got its one year warranty. (Any issues and you'd always be able to contact me).

I bought it online from GAK (a big music shop and online store in Brighton).

Yo, a satisfied customer!

Re your pedal search, this is in ‘length of a piece of string’ territory, Matt? What do you expect it to do? You get a piece of kit that does what you want and it’s great. It doesn’t do what someone else wants so they think it’s rubbish?

There appears to be a lot of sales pitch on ‘Sustain’? A product of compression but not very important to me. And, various state Compressor/Limiter but with no control to switch from one to the other? Manufactures' BS?

I have a Behringer CS-400 which disappointed (me) though everything on it works. The Keeley I find just too expensive for a one function pedal. I’m still interested in a dedicated pedal, but until I ever find one I use an old Yamaha REX50 effects box which delivers (for me).

Thanks Sufsilver, you make good points!

I guess for me it's about leveling out the sound I'm producing and the tone it helps create. I probably will go for the Keeley, though it's pricey.

Gosh, that brings back memories. I cannot remember which friend had one (back when they were new) but I do remember being impressed by it.

Matt, when you've got to grips with the Keeley you'll hopefully give us a review?

Lester, I got the REX50 from a keyboard player a few years ago. Never used one before, but it wasn’t much money, had plus reviews, and was Yamaha – ha so. About half the size of a laptop, weighs 4½ ton, mains powered, multi-function buttons instead of lots of knobs (shame), and mostly very usable processing – for me. I wasn’t expecting great shakes from the Compressor but I love what it does.

Speaking of echo machines, which we weren’t, seen this on evilbay?

Gotta see if anyone bids \:D

Keeleys are nice compressors.

If you're handy with a soldering iron the BYOC clone is a really good comp too

Will do a review once I've used it a bit for sure.
