Another Hypothetical Question

Considering the number of Guitars I've owned over the years, I'm not sure how but I've never really paid much attention to fretwire. I've levelled and polished a few badly worn ones but that's about it. Looking at the necks around here the frets all seem much the same but I couldn't say what was Jumbo and what wasn't. So... If I was considering ordering a nice neck and had the option of 6100 or 6150 fretwire (there are others but only those two in gold), what am I looking at? I found this http://www.lutherie.net/fret.chart.html Am I reading this correctly that both are a bit bigger than average, (medium jumbo?) and if so, by how much as they seem to be using a mixture of imperial and decimal. Similar problem with choice of hole size for tuners, 11/32", 25/64" and 13/32" is that alien for 8, 9 and 10mm?
Why am I asking? - http://www.warmoth.com/Showcase/ShowcaseNeck.aspx?i=TN4332&Body=1&Path=Neck

All my builds so far have been a bit on the budget side and while I'm happy with them all there's room for a little 'wow' factor. I've put the ongoing ones on hold for a bit while I assess the cost of doing something a bit more special. It could be the last one I can afford to do for a while so I'd rather do "the one" than two or three ok but budget Guitars. I'm thinking maybe one of those wenge necks from Warmoth and another carved top tele body from guitarbuild, probably with as dark a stain as I can find and some tru-oil and gold hardware. Not sure what to do about pickups yet but I might go for the strat type set-up like your tele.

Size of fretwire also depend on how hard you fret the strings. If, like me, you have the grip of death and find it difficult to fret the strings lightly, then the higher the fretwire the more it exacerbates the problem.
That is a fair point J, and it also depends on the string gauge used - I generally have 11's and never go below 10's. Lighter strings are more easily pressed down, so easier to get the detuning effect by pressing hard. So the recommendation is firmly for the 6150 fretwire by the looks of it! - and this after all is still a full jumbo sized fretwire.
The hole sizes: 11/32" = 8.73125mm (might as well be exact!) 25/64" = 9.921875mm (that's your 10 mm near as dammit!) 13/32" = 1.031875mm
I guess you are going for gold hardware Bry, given the gold frets which of course I approve of (hypothetically of course...). If it was me, I think I'd go for a fairly clean look, and let the nice woods do the talking - I think it's easy to get an over the top look with Guitars, but that's just my 2 pence worth. The extra middle pickup on a tele raises a couple of points worth considering: a) the cost - you would have to pay a little extra for a custom rout probably, and then the cost of the extra pickup of course. It all adds up! b) if you wire the guitar strat style, with a 5 way switch, you actually lose one of the characteristic tele sounds i.e. neck and bridge pickups together. So I ended up adding a mini switch to the control plate to get this back (plus a few more extra combinations - couldn't resist). But it makes for more complicated circuitry in general. I'm not saying it's bad, far from it, but I can also see that there is something to be said for the more straightforward 2 pickup tele arrangement.
Just some thoughts to add to your hypothetical musing, cheers!

Looking back at that fretwire chart I think I'd confused a couple of columns, I'd seen the ones that say ".074(high) and thought that made .055 and .042 medium where in fact there's only two that are higher. Given the replies (thanks all) I think I could live with either of the two but as I tend to prefer 9s and 10s I think Grahams recommendation would be the way to go. I would love to put that neck on a matching wenge body but that'd be a bit out of price range so I was thinking either a fairly subtle grained alder stained as dark as possible with no scratchplate or maybe a solid colour with a wooden plate. They still have a reduced price green one on the website which would make a nice match for the 12 string when it's done. Oh and yes, gold hardware

Sorry should have read the original post properly...wenge. That's a fairly dense wood? Never use it, but looks interesting. Why buy a stock neck? What about a custom made neck from a luthier? Probably cost the same.
Andy Crockett http://www.crockettguitars.com/Jazz/HOME.htm is good and reasonable. He is brilliant and his apprentice Alistair is Atkins guitarshttp://www.atkinguitars.com/ (the mega expernsive acoustic luthier to the stars). Just an idea. Keep us posted on the build

Is this a rosewood or maple board on the neck? I find rosewood board a bit more forgiving in terms of how you fret.
It's wenge for both neck and fretboard, dark but with grain showing.http://www.warmoth.com/Showcase/ShowcaseNeck.aspx?i=TN4332&Body=1&Path=Neck It says "10-16" Compound" for the neck radius, is this fairly flat or quite curved?
